The latest Nintendo Direct has confirmed that Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will be released on April 8th for the Nintendo Switch.
Check out the trailer below:
The game sees the players controlling the troops of the country Orange Star against their warring neighbors, in a brighter more colorful depiction of modern warfare that only Nintendo can bring.
This game is a remake that includes two full games, Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. These games were originally made for the Gameboy Advance by Intelligent Systems, the same people that make the Fire Emblem, Warioware, and Paper Mario games.
The Advance Wars games are acutely part of a larger franchise called Nintendo Wars which started on the Famicon with Famicom Wars in 1988. The first Advance Wars would be the first game in the series to release outside of Japan, in fact, the high sales of the title are what convinced Nintendo to finally start releasing Fire Emblem outside Japan as well.
Re-Boot Camp is also confirmed to have voice acting for the commanding officers.
The game is being developed by Wayforward of Shantae and River City Girls game and published by Nintendo, making this one of the few times that Nintendo has allowed an idea developer to work on one of their IPs. A practice that we hope to see continue in the future.
The game was originally supposed to be released last year however it was delayed for further fine-tuning.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will release for the Nintendo Switch on April 8th 2022.
