Capcom has launched a website for the 20th Anniversary of their desk-slamming visual novel adventure series Gyaketen Saiban or Ace Attorney as it’s known in the west. The website speaks of a couple of new events for the series and hints at more to come. It begins with a message about the series from its development team:
Today, “Ace Attorney” celebrates its 20th anniversary. It is our sincere pleasure to know that, 20 years after its birth, the series continues to receive a great deal of love from its many passionate fans.
“Ace Attorney” has been developed not only as a game, but also as an animated television series, a manga, a live-action movie, a stage show, a puzzle-solving event, and an orchestra. We have been able to develop the “Ace Attorney” series in a variety of ways.
We believe this is a testament to the support of many people and not something that Capcom could have done alone. We am truly grateful. We will continue to make every effort to make the Ace Attorney series enjoyable in various ways, and we hope that you will continue to support us for many years to come.
The events featured on the website include the new Capcom vs Osamu Tezuka characters exhibition at the Osamu Tezuka Museum which will see new artworks of Capcom characters including Ace Attorney characters like Pheonix Wright in the style of acclaimed Mangaka Osamu Tezuka, the man who is often referred to as the grandfather of manga.
A series of commemorative merchandise for the series will also go for sale on the Capcom Online Store. These include art from illustrators Yusuke Nakamura (Tatami Galaxy) and Ace attorney character designer Kazuya Nuri, which will go on sale on November 19th and December 17th. Some items will be available through pre-order only.
The website will also have a section going over the history of the Ace Attorney series which is coming soon and needs links to respective online stores for each of the games.
There are currently six mainline Ace Attorney games as well as a couple of side series. The franchise even had a crossover game with Professor Layton.
The latest game in the franchise is The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, released this year for Nintendo Switch and PS4, a collection of two games starring Pheonix Wright’s ancestor in 18th century London. These had previously only been released in Japan but have now seen an international release thanks to this collection.
