Already previously available on the Nintendo Switch edition, and available at launch on the PS4, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia has the Titans and the Iron Front update patch. With the patch, you get:
- Custom Difficulty options
- New high-level monsters in the Titan and Shadow Goblin
- Quality of life additions along with bug fixes
The full patch notes can be viewed here for all the details. If you don’t use your Switch docked – or have one to begin with – then the PS4 release of the game is the chance for you to play the game on a bigger console / screen. If you weren’t already aware, Legend of Runersia is the sequel to Legend of Forsena, arriving to a new generation of tactics and strategy fans over two decades later.
If you missed out on the original review of the game on the Switch, you can find it right here. Controls wise, there’s not much different from the Switch. Moving from node to node may feel a little awkward with the joystick, but the directional keys will work just fine.
The unique models are once again only limited to the royals. They might be at a higher resolution on the PS4, but honestly, I can’t tell the difference. They do have the new monsters, but with units leaving their posts when they’re on missions, I admit I get somewhat discouraged to send units on EXP quests for fear of leaving the doors open to invasion. And yes, I still play on easy because I haven’t learnt how to play this game quite yet, and that doesn’t mean the AI won’t suddenly spring a surprise on me.
The new options can make the game much more lenient, of course, from increasing quest success rates, mana acquisition and EXP gain. The modifiers can be applied to yourself – for that easy time – or applied to only your enemies (or both!), so if you want to really go full Expert Conquest mode, you can do so.
I do have a little nitpick with the auto scrolling speed, as it doesn’t pause sufficiently long enough on unvoiced lines and you’ll end up missing any lore. You can review it in the records if you’re so inclined, at least.
Options aside, it really is the same game on a different platform, so if you were eager to get your hands on a new Brigandine game without obtaining a console specifically for it, Legend of Runersia can now be played on your PS4. As mentioned, you can check out the original review here.
