Vtubers are a dime a dozen, each with their own personalities and charms but there is a sub-genre of comfy vtubers that are able to soothe the souls of the masses; a comfort character that tells you that you did your best after a hard day at work.
Devoid of love from my real life, I normally tend to check out vtubers that share the similar vibes to that sub-genre so that they can help me forget about the pains of being a societal outcast and make me sleep better at night.
I think one of the many appeals to these comfy vtubers are that they’re able to mend that hole in your heart with their mesmerising and soothing voices. The aloof and easy-going personality that some of them portray can make you feel super chill. As chill as opening up “Persona 5 Jazz Cafe Mix (w/ Cafe & Rain Ambience)” on Youtube.
Perhaps it’s because of the type of content that they stream is just so relaxing that you can just tune into one of them to just unwind after being constantly yelled at work for spending company working hours writing about some vtubers. Oh.
Now that I explained what are the appeals of comfy vtubers, here are my personal recommendations to some that I enjoy the most. Do note that my knowledge of vtubers are limited to mostly Hololive members and a little bit of other corporations/indietubers.
Ninomae Ina’nis
This first pick might not surprise anyone given the fact that I plastered her face on both the article image as well as during the opening paragraph. I have to admit that Ina is probably the one that dragged me down into the vtuber rabbit hole ever since the debut of the Hololive English branch.
Ina’s stream are extremely comfortable to tune into since she brands herself for being a relaxing person whose stream you can just throw in the background and go on with your daily life. I personally think a large part that contributes to her being so soothing is her voice.
She has this lower-pitched voice that also gives off this nerd-ish tone of voice that is something similar to how you know this one friend who’s super into this one franchise and that they’re able to tell you about the super niche and like fun-facts trivia of that said franchise.
I personally believe that Ina oozes the most comfy vibes are from her drawing streams that she does ever so often. I love tuning in to her art streams just to relax after work and hear her talk just about anything while she scribbles on screen. There’s also points in time where she focuses on the sketches and don’t talk at all, and that’s totally fine too because her BGM is equally as comfortable. No, I don’t have a parasocial relationship with a virtual anime girl, what makes you say that?
Ceres Fauna
The personification of Mother Nature herself, Fauna had also quickly made her way into my heart for being another comfy vtuber that I turn to if I want to relax. Despite having a high-pitched voice as compared to Ina, the soft-spoken tone that Fauna talks in can easily melt away my troubles.
As someone who doesn’t particularly find the appeal of ASMR streams, I do enjoy tuning in to Fauna’s ASMR streams from time to time to have my ears melt. Maybe I’m just biased or just “Downbad” as the kids would call it because I thoroughly enjoy Fauna’s “Motherly” voice as she cleans my ears and treats me to an oil massage.
I also have her original song constantly being stuck in my head for the past few days now, largely due to the fact of how melodic the tune of the song which is accompanied beautifully with her cutesy voice.
Tsunomaki Watame
A certain sheep who’s not at fault, I believe Watame’s fluffy personality playing a big part of portraying her comfy vibes. I personally enjoy her Zatsudan or Free Talking streams even though I don’t understand a lick of Japanese. I can’t exactly put my finger onto why I enjoy Watame’s streams but I guess if I were to try, it would probably be because of the overall vibes of how she conducts her streams.
Her collab stream with Fauna was also filled with tons of cute moments of Watame speaking English and I am forever blessed by that.
Amatsuka Uto
Going out of the Hololive sphere, I’ve grown quite fond of tuning into Uto’s bubbly streams. With her speaking mainly in Japanese, she shares the same thoughts that I have with Watame. Although I do enjoy her relaxing English learning streams since I can at least understand what’s going on as well as her karaoke streams so that I can bask in her angelic voice while she sings.
Unfortunately she’s currently on hiatus at the time of writing, so I will be patiently waiting for her return so that I can enjoy more of her comfy content.
Apricot / Froot
It was only recently that I got into watching Froot’s content. Previously only knowing her from the occasional twitter posts of her drawings, which she is incredibly talented at. I’ve started to enjoy watching her streams as I was entranced by her accent and her overall calming demeanor.
From the times that I’ve watched her, she can also be playful at times, teasing chat but she can get flustered easily and stutter with her words from time to time, which I find to be extremely adorable. Her vtuber model also gives of goth GF vibes which I personally dig a lot.
And those are some of the comfy vtubers that I would personally recommend watching if you haven’t already. The links to their channels can be found here:
