Wizards of the Coast have given us a new preview of MtG Crimson Vow , the next chapter of the return to Innistrad in Magic: The Gathering when it launches on the 19th of November
Continuing the story and themes of Midnight Hunt, the card set released on September, players will descend back into the land of fear. The efforts to reverse the day/night cycle imbalance during Midnight Hunt failed, and eternal darkness now threatens to befall the plane of Innistrad.
Crimson Vow follows the journey of Sorin, an iconic Vampire Planeswalker, who attempts to thwart the fiendish Vampire noblewoman, Olivia Voldaren, and her plans to wed herself to the Markov bloodline and assume control over the plane.
The new signature mechanic for MtG Crimson Vow is the new Blood Tokens- these can be sacrificed to draw you extra cards combined discarding a card of your own.
There’s also a new keyword ability called Training- having a big beefstick will be good for your entire menagerie of creatures as they get +1/+1 counter for being near a stronger creature.
There’s also all manner of cool new spells- the new Cleave spell lets you alter the abilities of other spells itself- letting you retool spells to your grand designs. The set also sees the return of the Exploit mechanic, letting you sacrifice creatures for new abilities which you can read about in our special preview.
Naturally, you couldn’t have a Vampire-themed expansion without paying homage to Count Dracula, and Crimson Vow does just that- with multiple cards featuring the character.
Just like Midnight Hunt, there’s also special fanged borders, giving your cards a cool vampire aesthetic.
