This week, the Brave Room gets a little heavy as the gang talk all things Parasocial relationships in the modern internet spaces. There’s no punchline, that’s literally the topic.

Because nothing on the internet sells without some nostalgia, there’s also some looking back to be had- including the cursed mention of the website Friendster in the year of our Lord 2021.

But that’s not the meat of the episode- instead this episode is a pretty serious look at something that’s become more apparent nowadays, which is parasocial relationships- that feeling that you’re super close to someone who’s never even met you before.

If anything, parasocial relationships have actually gotten way better over the years- way more content creators are calling the behavior out, not letting a tragic backstory lead to some pretty dangerous fan interaction.Still, with the way social media works the opportunity to start feeling entitled to a person’s time 100% of the time is more present than ever.
