[ Guide ] How to quickly farm Mercenary Coins in Hearthstone Mercenaries

In Hearthstone Mercenaries, the most recent game mode added to Blizzard Entertainment‘s ever popular card game, one of the most precious resources you’d like to farm would be Mercenary Coins. Here, we give you the quickest way to get as many of them as possible.

WHAT ARE MERCENARY COINS USED FOR?

Mercenary Coins can be used in a multitude of ways, namely:

• Crafting a new Mercenary
• Upgrading Mercenary skills
• Upgrading Mercenary equipment

Crafting a new merc from scratch depends on their rarity, starting from 100 for Rares, 300 for Epics, and 500 for Legendaries. As for upgrading, these costs also incrementally go up, so you’d really like to get as many coins for a particular merc as possible.

Skills have a current maximum of level 5, while Equipment is at level 4.

METHOD

UPDATE 23/10: A hot-fix may have made the method more unreliable. Nonetheless, the gist of it remains.

Besides claiming the Bounty completion rewards or PVP rewards, Tasks can typically give out at least 50 coins for a particular merc. These Tasks are normally time-gated and random, depending on the visitor you get at the Campfire. Besides their coins, Tasks are also good for unlocking equipment for said merc. Some of the equipment can be really significant, potentially changing a merc’s playstyle, so yeah, you will want those Tasks!

What you want to look for is the Mysterious Stranger, where you get select a merc to get their Task. What you need:

• The Merc to be in your party
• Sufficient DPS for as fast clears as possible

When you’ve set up your party, head over to the Heroic Barrens, and select Serena Bloodfeather’s bounty. You can typically encounter the Mysterious Stranger within 2 battles. Once you’ve gotten the Task, retire, and repeat the process. Ensure your Campfire is not already full, otherwise you will only get some coins (~15) of your chosen merc instead of a Task. Alternatively, you can use this limitation to farm up coins for mercs you’ve already completed all Tasks for. Each Merc has enough individual Tasks up to a current known maximum of 18.

Retiring from the Heroic Bounty also gets you a selection of coins for 3 mercs, slowly adding up over time.

An alternative location is Lord Banehollow, with similar distance to a Mysterious Stranger potential spawn. Be sure to do it on Heroic!

RECOMMENDED PARTY

For free-to-play players, having a party with Xyrella and Samuro can help clear the initial battles quickly. Xyrella’s Blinding Luminance is an extremely powerful support and damaging ability, and crucially, enables Samuro’s Double Strike. Samuro would be able to hit an enemy twice, and has less chances to die thanks to Xyrella reducing the enemy’s attack.

Otherwise, pick your choice of fast and/or high damage dealers.
