The Genshin Impact anniversary event drama has spilled over to Honkai Impact 3rd as both games are getting review bombed. For those who are unaware, both games are developed by miHoYo—leading to players using the Google Play Store pages of the games as virtual spaces for protests over the poor handling of Genshin Impact‘s 1st anniversary event.
Genshin Impact has been hit the hardest, with review scores dropping from 4.5 stars down to 2+ stars. In an ironic twist, Reddit user daishukanami pointed out that the game’s score has dropped below that of Grand Honkai Sword Impact 3rd, a rip-off of Genshin Impact.
In some countries such as Brazil, the game’s rating has dipped down to 1.5 stars, as noted by Reddit user SMatheusV.
On the other hand, Honkai Impact 3rd is on the brink of dropping down to 3 stars, with players doubling down on their efforts in voicing out their frustration towards miHoYo. As seen in the screenshot below, players are leaving 1-star reviews on the Honkai Impact 3rd Play Store page mockingly wishing Genshin Impact a happy anniversary.
For many players, review bombing miHoYo’s games is seen as the only way to express their discontent over the Genshin Impact 1st anniversary event drama. While review bombing is not limited to mobile gacha games, the practice has seen frequent use amongst the gacha gaming community. This is partly due to Epic Seven, another mobile gacha game, getting review bombed back in 2019, and how the state of the game improved for the better after the developers listened to their players.
Earlier this year, miHoYo’s founders were assaulted by a knife-wielding assailant over Honkai Impact 3rd‘s 3rd anniversary for global. While we at GamerBraves support players’ right to freedom of speech, we harshly condemn any sort of violence towards another human being.
