Surprise! Nintendo just announced that they will be releasing Super Mario Run for iPhones, featuring our lovable plumber, Mario. According to an interview with TIMES, the development team of Super Mario Run are mostly from the original Super Mario development team, along with Nintendo developers who are most familiar with side-scrolling Mario games, with the aim to make the best possible mobile Mario game.
The game features three different game modes, (1) challenging courses, (2) challenge other people’s ghosts, (3) create your own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected from the previous two modes. According to Nintendo, the game will be free to play and an in-app purchase to unlock the rest of the content.
However, with the upcoming release of Super Mario Run in December, Nintendo announced that they will be delaying the release of Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile games to next year:
“Based on a variety of factors, we felt it was most appropriate for Super Mario Run to launch ahead of these other two apps. Our Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem titles for mobile will launch before the end of our fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2017.” – Nintendo
No harm, I guess, since Super Mario would appeal more to the masses even though Animal Crossing is popular itself. Can’t wait for the release of Super Mario Run!
