The Singapore Games Association (SGGA) has announced Singapore Games Week 2021 (SGW), a celebration of the local games industry in the country.
According to the SGGA, the event will run from 11th -31st October, with events scheduled all along the 20-day period.
“We conceptualised SGW as a celebration of the business aspect of the Singapore games industry, as well as give its awesome communities a platform to reach out to the masses. This year’s event will be held online. We hope SGW can grow into an annual experiential opportunity for both industry players and the general public to better understand our local games industry – so come attend, participate, or even organise a fringe event with us! At the same time, we hope to also showcase Singapore’s games expertise to the international games industry,” said Gwen Guo, SGGA’s chairperson.
The main feature of Singapore Games Week 2021 will be its Virtual Village, which begins operations on 11th October. The virtual playground will allow visitors to create their own avatars, exploring content set up by local Singaporean game companies such as a workshop by AlterCulture Studios.
On top of that, it also coincides with gamescom Asia, where SGGA members will enjoy subsidized rates to exhibit at the virtual conference, as well as the Asia Games Awards on the 17th, celebrating the best of Asia’s games scene.
“SGW 2021 is one of the key initiatives under SGGA to raise the profile of and facilitate the development of the Singapore games and esports ecosystem. SGGA is supported by Enterprise Singapore (ESG), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Established in 2020, the non-profit, membership-based organisation aims to develop and support a sustainable gaming and esports ecosystem locally, while placing Singapore’s gaming industry on the world map”, the SGGA explains..
