Capcom has announced that it will be shutting down its smartphone-based online RPG Breath of Fire 6: Guardians of the White Dragon this coming 27 September 2017. The company stated that “due to changes in external environment”, it will be terminating the service for the game. If you ask us, we are going to hazard a guess and say that it is due to a low player population.
For those into RPGs, you will recognise Breath of Fire as one of the better know titles in the genre. Making a game that had its roots in the console for the smartphone would have most definitely alienated core fans. With old fans not particularly caring, and new players have better alternatives, it is little wonder that the game will be shutting down, having gone online for barely over a year.
Perhaps Capcom will be able to learn from this lesson, and give fans what they want, namely a new Breath of Fire game on the consoles.
