Part one of the Alchemy Stars summer event – dubbed Ocean Sovereign as a whole – is Summer Memories. Summer Memories adds three new Aurorians to recruit in Alchemy Stars, namely, Beryl, Fleur and Pasolo. Bonacie is the event 5-star, and will be at the end of this first impressions / overview.
BERYL
Beryl is a 6-star Forest Detonator. Her Secondary Element is not revealed.
Her Active Skill can deal massive damage to all enemies on the map, increasing in damage when there’s less enemies around. While her Equipment is not previewed either, marking her current location and potentially triggering her Equipment Skill can give her more reach outside of her cooldowns. It’s a more offensive location marking skill compared to Wendy, who brings utility in teleporting. Her cooldown is possibly 3 turns, following that logic.
Beryl will work in both swarm or boss situations thanks to the multiplier on her Active Skill, and her Chain Combo is also focused around her. A comparison could be made to Cuscuta, who can also deal a lot of damage to single or multiple targets with her cluster-targetting Chain Combo, with multipliers off her Equipment’s Dismember Marks on enemies. Cuscuta’s Active Skill only affects all enemies at max Breakthrough, making Beryl easier to use for pure damage. As a note, Cuscuta’s Active Skill has added utility in moving small enemies, if they are not immune to knockback effects.
VERDICT: Recommended if lacking Forest DPS. If you somehow have a max Breakthrough Cuscuta, may be lower in priority. May edge out Cuscuta if her Secondary Element is not Forest.
FLEUR
Fleur is a 6-star Water Sniper. His Secondary Element is not revealed.
His Active Skill is more focused than Connolly, his fellow 6-star Water Sniper, who attacks enemies in surrounding clusters. Like Connolly, he can also mark enemies, though Connolly’s is attached to her Equipment. He looks like he can be a much better boss killer, with potential to both double his Chain Combo and deal increased damage with some timing. As he can mark enemies, his cooldown is possibly 3 turns, similar to fellow Water Aurorian, Sharona, who applies her unique Dragontooth Marks with her Active Skill.
While he looks to be a focused attacker, he also has AOE damage capabilities with his Chain Combo, so he can still be a flexible damage dealer outside of bosses.
VERDICT: Recommended for Water teams lacking in reach or damage. May lose out in the beginning to a raised Vice.
PASOLO
Pasolo is a 4-star Forest Converter. As a 4-star, this means her Ascension 3 will not grant her a Secondary Element.
As a Converter, she already has a point in her favour, with the drawback being only able to convert a single tile. She brings a unique utility where she can make a bridge over gaps, helpful for parties without Aurorians like Migard (for teleporting), or Sikare (map wide Chain Combo). Otherwise, if you already have either Migard or Sikare, or Forest’s multitude of Converters – Gabriel, Nikinis, Hiiro (actually a Detonator), Pact – she’ll probably won’t be high priority.
Her cooldown is likely to be 3 turns, taking Nadine as an example, with a Breakthrough to make it Pre-emptive. As a 4-star, she’s more likely to hit max Breakthrough, too.
Interestingly, her Chain Combo applies Bleeding. Forest has no immediate synergy with Bleeding, but Fire does. There’s a possible synergy where you might want to make her Captain for a Fire team should you also have Victoria, who restores HP and deals damage based on Bleeding stacks.
VERDICT: Has unique bridge-making utility, but likely lower in priority for mono Forest teams. Some consideration as Fire Captain if you have Victoria.
BONACIE
Bonacie is a 5-star Thunder Support. Her Secondary Element is not revealed.
While she is billed a Support, her Active Skill at first glance looks similar to a Detonator’s. She can move smaller enemies in a chosen direction, while also dealing map-wide damage. The enemies will presumably be clumped up in the selected direction.
A comparable Aurorian for her Active Skill could be Tessa, who pulls units towards her. Tessa’s cooldown is 2 turns, and becomes Pre-emptive at max Breakthrough, which is equally doable for Bonacie who is a free unit.
If she can clump up enemies, then she has easy synergy with Eve or Dayna in a mono Thunder team, to concentrate damage in one area.
VERDICT: Likely to be good with Aurorians whose skills affect enemies concentrated in a cluster.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
Possibly skippable if already have units in their respective roles.
Without seeing their Equipment effects, there are yet factors left to consider. From the previews, Beryl, Fleur and Pasolo have clearly defined roles, so if you’re intending to save for future units, you may opt to skip their rate-ups. Pasolo will be available for free from the event log in bonuses, leaving only her Breakthroughs you can try getting.
Of course, as Alchemy Stars is still a game after all, if any of the Summer Memories characters appeal to you, go ahead and get them.
