Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is being revived for Apple Aracde. It was originally a free-to-play Castlevania game that Konami attempted to launch. It has a soft launch in Canada, not even Japan or the US, just Canada before Konami pulled the plug and cancelled it.
The upside of this is that because it’s on Apple Aracde, it means no microtransactions. You just have to pay the subscription fee of $5 USD a month. A pretty decent price to not have to deal with in-app purchases.
Grimoire of Souls is a Castlevania spin-offs title that sees various heroes from throughout the franchise join together to make their way through various different levels, fighting Dracula’s hordes of monsters with a load of different weapons along the way. If you’ve ever played the PS3 Castlevania Spin off Harmony of Despair, it’s apparently a lot like that. I wouldn’t know though, I’m not Canadian.
It honestly looks pretty fun though and the artwork by Ayami Kojima is great as ever. Of course, it would be nice to get a new mainline Castlevania game or at least port this one to consoles but maybe that’s too much to ask from Konami nowadays. I suppose that’s what Bloodstained is for though.
While no official release date has been given Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will be available likely exclusive to apple arcade on ios later this year. You can download it from the app store.
There is also another Castlevania mobile game that is supposed to come out soon called Castlevania: Moon Night Rhapsody. There hasn’t been much word about this game since its announcement last year but it should be released sometime in 2021.
