Korean company Vespa has announced that it will be developing a mobile title based on the Shining Force series, due out some time in 2022.
The studio told Japanese outlet Gamer.ne that they had acquired the license from SEGA to bring the tactical RPG to phones, tentatively calling their game Shining Force : Heroes of Light and Darkness.
While the Shining Force mobile game is slated to release some time in the first half of 2022, the Gamer.ne report also mentions a planned beta test, so we could be hearing more from this game very soon.
A representative from Vespa said, “We are very happy to have this special opportunity to recreate the classic game ‘Shining Force’, which represents the global game house Sega, through this contract. We are preparing a game that will be enjoyed by many people, not only existing users who have nostalgia for the Shining series, but also those who are new to Shining Force, so we hope you will look forward to its release”.
Shining Force is a tactical RPG released in the 90s for the SEGA Mega Drive. Considering how many other popular RPGs are diving in on the opportunity for a mobile spinoff such as Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, it’s unsurprising that SEGA would start digging around for their own old IPs to revitalize via the mobile market.
