Record of Ragnarok, a high-flying anime about the Gods fighting the Champions of Man, launches today on Netflix in South East Asia.
The anime features a tournament between Gods and Man, fighting for the fate of humanity in thirteen one-on-one battles to the death.
The series share a lot of the same appeal as the widely-popular Fate series in that you get to see iconic historical and mythological figures reinterpreted through the eyes of the anime, such as Lu Bu, Thor and even Adam, the first human.
The anime is based on a popular manga titled Shuumatsu No Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok. In it, the Gods across multiple faiths and cultures decide that they want to eradicate humanity. However, on the suggestion of a lone Valkyrie, the Gods are goaded into leaving that decision to the result of a tournament, dubbed Ragnarok. Humanity must win 7 out of 13 one-on-one matches, or be annihilated as a species.
The manga isn’t complete yet, so it’s unknown how far the Netflix adaptation of Record of Ragnarok will go for its first season.
Netfflix has been upping its quantity of anime adaptations, with Edens Zero coming out later this year and the cult-classic Way of the Househusband also releasing earlier in the year.
