Nintendo has been rather tight-lipped over their rumored console, the Nintendo Switch Pro (also known as New Nintendo Switch). Note that the Switch Pro has not been officially announced by Nintendo but leaks and rumors have been strongly hinting at the development of this device.
Many have hoped that the Switch Pro will be announced during the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct. From GameStop leaks to Amazon listings, the existence (or upcoming existence) of a newer, more powerful version of the Switch is very likely. Needless to say, Nintendo have kept to their word by asserting that yesterday’s Direct was to be software-focused. The only piece of hardware that was announced was the Game & Watch: Legend of Zelda.
Despite the Switch Pro’s no-show, new rumors have emerged. There have been claims that some of the games that were shown on yesterday’s Direct ran on the Switch Pro’s hardware, given the quality of gameplay. The Switch Pro is rumored to have a Nvidia Tegra processor, a larger OLED display and 4K compatibility when docked.
Regardless, the standard Nintendo Switch’s sales have been performing extremely well. Given the current global shortage for electronic components such as chips, it does make sense for Nintendo to play the waiting game for the rumored console. Who knows, when Breath of the Wild 2 comes out next year, it may even be announced alongside the Switch Pro.
