Monster Hunter Stories 2 : Wings of Ruin has released a new trailer giving more information about the game’s story, as well as more insight into some of the systems present in the game.
In the new trailer, we see that a large part of the Monster Hunter Stories 2 story will revolve around mysterious pits, which cause nearby monsters to become aggressive. Dubbed rage rays, it looks like a good chunk of the game’s story will revolve around this, as well as keeping your Rathalos out of trouble as the rest of the villagers scorn it for being a bad omen.
During the livestream, the developers also talked over some of the new features in the game, such as Genes and the Rite of Channeling. Genes are like the skills for your Monstie companion, with elements as well as attack types tied to them. Having matching Gene icons on the game’s grid will trigger a bingo effect, allowing you to get extra bonuses.
You’ll also be able to transfer genes between monsters via the new Rite of Channeling, giving monsters access to skills they couldn’t have had before. These include moves like the Fated Four from Monster Hunter Generations’ own signature moves, and can seemingly be passed to monsters with limited to no restrictions, as the developers showed an Arzuros loaded with all these moves.
They also reminded players of the cross promotional campaign with Monster Hunter Rise, wherein players with Rise’s save data would be able to unlock the Kamura armor set in Monster Hunter Stories 2.
