The sequel for the Live Action Kakegurui movie has been delayed, following a worsening COVID-19 situation in Japan.
The live actuion Kakegurui sequel was moved from its April 29th release date to May 12th. There will also be a virtual event held by the cast after the movie’s premiere, since they can’t have an audience at the theatres.
Titled Kakegurui 2: Ultimate Russian Roulette, the movie focuses on a new plot not based on the manga. This features a new antagonist, who is another crazed gambler similar to series protagonist Yumeko Jabami.
Considering how much it diverges from the manga and anime, it seems like the movie is a reinterpretation of Midari’s episodes from the anime, which also prominently featured Russian Roulette. The trailer even shows her testing the gun, similar to the scene in the anime where she first it on the floor to prove that the guns are loaded.
Kakegurui has been on a roll lately, having a collaboration with mobile game Mahjong Spirits. Meanwhile, the author of the original manga has also been attached to a new project, while the manga is still ongoing.
Kakegurui has previously released an anime, which has both seasons currently available to stream on Netflix outside of Japan. There was also a live-action drama, which can also be viewed on Netflix.
