Playstation Plus Video Pass a future prospect

Playstation Plus subscribers look like they may soon gain access to Playstation Plus Video Pass. It was accidentally leaked on Sony’s official website, the service being described as a “limited time benefit” for PS Plus subscribers available from 22 April 2021 to 22 April 2022. The logo and description have since been removed.

With Sony ceasing distribution of TV and movie content for purchase or rental on the Playstation Store from 31 August 2021, this could be how the other media can continue to be accessible. If you have gotten TV or movie content from the PS Store before, rest assured you will still have access to them.

The featured movies – Venom, Zombieland: Double Tap and Bloodshot – are all movies from Sony Pictures, though we’ll have to see if the offerings will be exclusively from Sony’s library, or licensing will allow for other titles. It’s also currently unknown if you’d be able to access the movies at any point as long as you maintain your subscription, or they’re only available as long as they remain on the service.

Licensing is a finicky beast, so the Playstation Plus Video Pass is likely going to be available to select regions, and it’ll take a long while, if at all, to broaden its scope. We’ll have to keep an eye out.
