Sony’s latest-gen console is getting its first major update. This PS5 system update introduces several nifty new features.
This update adds improvements in the form of new storage features, social features for both PS4 and PS5, general PS5 quality of life improvements and additional features for the PlayStation mobile app. The console update goes live later today.
The first feature that PS5 owners are getting is the ability to store games on external USB drives. In addition, transferring a game from a USB drive to the PS5’s internal storage is faster than using a disc. However, note that you cannot play games on your PS5 directly from a USB drive.
Besides that, PS5 owners can also share their screen with other players on PS5 and PS4 via Share Play. Share Play also lets viewers take control of a PS5 game virtually.
In addition, the PS5 will also get a bunch of quality of life improvements such as an improved game base, new trophy settings and stats screen and the ability to pre-download game updates.
Finally, the PlayStation mobile app is also getting new features such as wishlisting and the being able to get notifications when friends are online.
