The combat-themed fantasy Harvest Moon spin-off is getting a new mainline entry. Rune Factory 5 has a 20th May 2021 release date for Japan.
The developer, Marvelous, uploaded the latest trailer to the game, revealing its release date. You can watch the trailer here:
While the Japanese release has a fixed date, the worldwide release for Rune Factory 5 does not. Currently, the game still has a 2021 release but will come after the Japanese version is out.
Like previous entries, Rune Factory 5 features a protagonist who suffers from amnesia. The game is not a continuation of Rune Factory 4, and thus does not require players to play the previous entry to understand the story.
Players get to pick their character’s gender, romance options and even have children. Besides the farming elements ala Harvest Moon, Rune Factory 5 also has an emphasis on combat which is necessary for progressing the story.
Initially, Marvelous announced the game back in 2019 with a release slated for 2020. However, due to the epidemic, the game had to be delayed to this year. Fans of the Rune Factory series have been waiting for a new instalment for nearly a decade, with Rune Factory 4 released back in 2012.
Rune Factory 5 will be available on Switch. Check the game out on the eShop.
