Just shy of its upcoming fifth anniversary, the Japan servers for Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin will be shut down. The announcement on the game’s official Twitter states the service will end on 27 April 2021, 15:00 JST. The game will continue to be updated until the end of service, with main story scenario as well as a fan art campaign.
The global server for Valkyrie Anatomia had shut down in June 2020 as well, having been much more ill-fated compared to its Japanese counterpart, lasting just over a year. Sales of premium items have already ceased, and should anyone wish to refund any unused currency, the details will be announced at a later date.
The last “proper” console title for the series was back in 2009, so fans haven’t had much to go off on for quite a while. Perhaps some day the series will find some new life in a port / remaster like how many titles have made its way onto the Nintendo Switch and beyond, but until then, this will be the last of Valkyrie Profile.
In any case, there looks like there will be plenty of fan art to follow for the last hurrah besides any other additional campaigns prior to the shut down, so enjoy what’s left.
