NetEase’s Onmyoji mobile game’s live-action film adaptation, “The Yin Yang Master“, will be viewable globally via Netflix.
Directed by Li Weiran, the Onmyoji film stars Chen Kun and Zhou Xun as Qing Ming and Bai Ni respectively. Also on the team are art director Yoshihito Akatsuka (Kill Bill) and music composer Shigeru Umebayashi (In The Mood For Love).
The Yin Yang Master opens in theatres throughout China this week. Netflix acquired the rights to stream the film on its platform for global audiences to watch in the future.
In The Yin Yang Master, the world is on the verge of a devastating war with the monsters who are coming back to retrieve the Scaling Stone. Yin Yang Master Qing Ming (Chen Kun)’s life is in danger and he travels to different worlds to prepare for the upcoming assaults. On his journey, Qing Ming finds that the key to all the calamities is embracing his hybrid identity of both human and monster.
Li Weiran’s The Yin Yang Master is different from The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity directed by Guo Jingming. Both films are also based on NetEase’s Onmyoji, which itself is a mobile game adaptation of Baku Yumemakura’s novel of the same name. In addition, Netflix has the rights to stream both of the Onmyoji movies.
