Sonic the Hedgehog hits the screens once again with Sonic Prime, a new 3D series set to arrive on Netflix next year.
According to Netflix’s Twitter account, the series will be penned by Ben 10 creator Man of Action, and will feature the star of the last movie everyone saw in theatres exploring a “strange new multiverse”.
Sadly, they haven’t given much more outside of a logo for the show, but the fact it’s been slated for a 2022 release is a good sign that production has been secretly underway.
The series will be produced by Wild Brain Ltd, spanning 24 episodes. While Wild Brain is more commonly associated with kids shows such as The Teletubbies, the studios have produced more young adult-leaning content like the new Carmen Sandiego series.
Sonic Prime will be done by their Vancouver studio, with SEGA jointly participating in production, distribution and licensing.
Man of Action Entertainment is a writers’ collective most famous for their work on Ben 10, and has largely been a big name in series predominantly aimed at young children, but enjoyable enough for most adults.
They were also involved with Disney’s Big Hero 6, and write for various comics as well.
While Sonic the Hedgehog has always been hit-or-miss with storied franchise, the last Sonic series, Sonic Boom holds a cult-like following for its meta humor. Weirdly enough, the game its based on does not hold the same fan appeal.
