ANA, JP Games announce virtual travel project

According to a report by Yomiuri Shimbun, JP Games and All Nippon Airways (ANA) have announced that they will be collaborating on a virtual travel project.

The ANA virtual travel project sees users being able to travel to cities developed through computer graphics in a virtual space. Hajime Tabata, CEO of JP Games, will be working on the project as a general producer. In his comment to Famitsu, Tabata stated that he will be using the skills and experience he had garnered from developing RPGs in the past, and intends to transform travel into something beyond reality. For the uninitiated, Tabata had directed Final Fantasy Type-0 and Final Fantasy XV during his stint at Square Enix. This is rather interesting project from the airline, which has been struggling from the adverse impacts brought about by the coronavirus-induced lockdowns, to say the least. We aren’t exactly sure what they intend to achieve with this project, although it does serve as a reminder that there is still a world out there to visit, even if it can only be done through virtual reality.
