With the introduction of the likes of EA Access, subscription services seem like they will be a trend among gaming companies. Rumours have it that we could be seeing a subscription-based service from Sega.
A YouTuber by the name of Shawn Long uploaded a video talking about Sega Forever, the service in question. Sent images of Comix Zone for iOS, Long noted that the main menu featured options for “AD-FREE” and “SEGAzine.” Upon clicking on AD-FREE, users are taken to a page which shows that the game has ad-supported and ad-free versions. While the ad-supported version has cloud-saves, the ad-free version also includes local saves. This option also has a button that says “SEGA_FOREVER_BUY_FOR.” Scrolling to the bottom, it shows “SEGA games may be featured upon launch.”
Upon booting up Comix Zone, users are welcomed with a screen which popped up asking them to subscribe to a Sega Forever newsletter. Supporting this story is the fact that Sega has registered Sega Forever accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. With E3 to take place less than a month away, expect more details regarding this service then.
