Gothic fantasy tactics game Black Legend ‘s demo is now available to download. Additionally, a new developer diary is available explaining in-detail the game’s setting and mechanics.
The demo was previously available during the Steam Autumn Festival, but is now permanently available for download. It covers the first hour of the game, and introduces players to the game’s setting and mechanics.
“The reaction we had from strategy fans during the festival was amazing. Seeing fans of the genre dive into the game and experience this small slice of it for the first time was a huge morale boost to the studio.”, says Black Legend Creative Director and Lead Designer Menno van der Heijden.
“Between our community Discord and Steam, we’ve received a lot of great feedback about the game, but what we’ve been hearing most is ‘This game looks great, I wish I hadn’t missed out on the demo during the festival’ and the best way to fix that is to well, make it available to everyone.”
The developer diary reveals a lot more of the game’s story, discussing the fog that covers the entire city and your role in trying to remove it.
It also talks about how Black Legend handles critical hits, which utilizes a mix of RNG and strategy to it. While you always have a random chance to land critical hits, every attack that doesn’t crit increases the probability of the next one being a crit.
The game also does away with percentages to hit, instead relying on a “if you can see it, you can hit it” approach.
Black Legend will be released on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4, as well as their next-gen counterparts Q1 2021.
