The upcoming The World Ends With You anime has gotten a new promotional video, showing more of the action scenes.
The trailer shows us more iconic scenes from the game, such as the moment where protagonist Neku first teams up with Shiki to fight monsters.
We also get more of a glimpse at the rest of the cast of the game, including the two reapers who harass you throughout.
There’s no footage here that isn’t an interpretation of something that was in the games either, so it looks like this anime will be a pretty faithful adaptation of the game’s plot.
The World Ends With You is an RPG about a bunch of teenagers who get pulled into the “Reaper’s Game”. Here, they’ll need to complete 7 challenges before the timer runs out, or risk destruction.
They also have access to psychic powers, though only when they make pacts with each other. They use this to fight Noise, monsters who look like a fusion of animals and street art elements.
We also got a taste of The World Ends With You anime’s opening, titled Teenage City Riot and performed by the band ALI. ALI had previously produced the opening for the first season of Beastars.
Just last night, the game was given a follow-up in the form of NEO: The World Ends With You. The World Ends With You anime drops April, 2021.
