It’s not every day that a game gets another game added into it post-launch, though that certainly seems to be the case with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. A new card game, Dragon Ball Card Warriors, was added via an update today.
It’s actually a pretty serviceable card games by the look of it. The game also has multiplayer, so you can battle your friends to see who’s the number one Card Warrior.
According to Bandai Namco Entertainment, you can access Dragon Ball Card Warriors from the game’s title screen, so you can get straight into the action.
It’s Time To Duel
The game shares some similarity with Yu-Gi-Oh!, another popular card game.
You summon cards that fight each other, with the aim of reducing your opponent’s health to 0. Aside from characters, you can also play Event cards which have different effects.
You’ll also have a deck similar to the Extra Deck in Yu-Gi-Oh, with high cost cards there. According to the trailer, composing this deck will be important for doing well in the game.
One of the neatest things about Card Warriors is its catchup mechanic. Certain cards have attributes tied to them such as Ki, Tai and Cho. When these cards are destroyed, you build stacks of those symbols. You can spend these stacks to cast powerful abilities, allowing players on the back foot to stage a comeback.
There’s also the game’s energy charge mechanic, which lets you overcharge your stored energy. The trailer says that this allows you to bring out more high-cost cards, and is great for securing your victory.
Fans who’ve played Dragon Ball Kakarot to death are especially incentivized to give Card Warriors a try. With the addition of Card Warriors, you can use the game’s collectible cards from the Z Encyclopedia to get Gacha tickets, and unlock more playable cards.
You can also buy more of the cards using the in-game currency.
Aside from Card Warriors, the game is also getting various quality-of-life adjustments such as automatic text advancement and notification for sub story unlocks.
Additionally, Villainous Mira is also being added to the game.
Dragon Ball Kakarot is an RPG based on the wildly popular Dragon Ball series. It’s available for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
