The Ascent, an action-RPG set up against a techno-futuristic backdrop will be available for the Xbox Series X|S at launch. The game will also be coming via Xbox GamePass.
The Ascent will see players dive into ‘The Ascent Group’ arcology, a self-contained corporate-run metropolis, stretching high into the sky and filled with creatures from all over the galaxy. Taking on the role of an indentured worker, the world starts to go haywire when The Ascent Group shuts down for unknown reasons. Life becomes a case of survival, with rival corporations and crime syndicates looking to fill the empty space. Players will have to take up arms and hold them off. The Ascent begins here.
It’s being developed by Neon Giant and published by Curve Digital, a publisher for indie games.
The game will support up to four-player co-op, where players can customize their characters with weapons, armor and even cybernetic enhancements.
In a special deep dive, the developers at Neon Giant also talked about the verticality introduced into the game. Players can opt to shoot high or low, with enemies taking more stagger damage if shot high. They haven’t fully explained the system, but they seemed really proud of it.
They also discussed how they wanted the city to feel more alive, with civilians reacting to violence the player causes.
The game is releasing for Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2021. It will also be a part of Xbox Game Pass, meaning you can get it simply by subscribing for the service.
