CG Anime movie Lupin III The First will be released on Blu-Ray and digitally later this year. The film is based off of Monkey Punch’s Lupin III anime, and is the first CG entry of the franchise.
The movie will release digitally first, ahead of its physical release. The digital edition of the movie can be bought starting from December 15th, 2020.
The movie will release physically on Blu-Ray and DVD January 12th, 2021. This will include a steelbook edition, which comes with a 16-page booklet featuring concept art for the movie.
Additionally, cinemas in the U.S will also be having special screenings of the movie. The dubbed version of the movie will be screened October 18th, with a subbed version screened October 21st.
Animation fans in general have given positive feedback for the Lupin III movie. This is particularly because of its aesthetic, which manages to retain the original anime’s look despite the shift in medium. There’s also been a lot of praise for how well the characters remote, especially given the expressive nature of Lupin’s face.
Even though Lupin III creator Monkey Punch passed away early last year, he’d previously expressed his excitement over the franchise’s CG leap to the big screen.
