Sony Reworks Playstation Trophy Scoring

Sony has announced some changes to how trophies will be displayed on the PS4 and upcoming PS5. These Playstation Trophy changes are entirely related to how they display on your profiles, and won’t affect their implementation in games. They detailed these changes via a new blog post.

A reminder that this game is also one of the easiest platinum trophies on the PS4.

Trophy levels are quite simple. Earning trophies across all your PS3 and PS4 games would net you fixed point values, depending on the trophies. The total score of all your trophies would then add up like XP, and you would get a Trophy level. Based on your Trophy level, you’d have either a bronze, silver, gold or platinum trophy on your PSN profile.

Previously, these levels would only go up to level 100, with the different grades of trophy being awarded based on those levels.

Even Consoles Get A New Level Cap

Thanks to the blog post, we know now that ahead of the PS5 launch, they’ll be expanding these levels. The new level cap is 999, and current trophy scores will be recalculated and readjusted to fit the new scale.

The new trophy grades are as follows:

Bronze: levels 1-299
Silver: levels 300 – 599
Gold: levels 600 – 998
Platinum: level 999

They haven’t discussed whether individual trophies would be getting a points adjustment to suit the new level cap, but it seems all but confirmed.

“If your current Trophy level is 12, your new level will jump to somewhere in the low 200’s”, the blog post explains. “The exact level will depend on the number and grades of trophies you’ve acquired. There will be no changes to the Trophies already earned or Trophy information, such as unlock requirements”.

Just because they’re expanding the trophy levels, doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck looking at the same icons for too long. Sony says they’ll be adding tiers to the individual grades of Trophy, to show how close a player is from moving between grades.

Additionally, Sony also confirmed in the post that trophies from PS4 and PS3 would carry over to the PS5. This isn’t particularly new for the company, especially since the PS4 already did that with the PS3.
