GAMEVIL‘s new strategy RPG, War of Crown launches on iOS and Android platform recently. Its strategy enthusiast refined tactical gameplay attracts our attention; therefore here is our review after a short playing of the game.
Introduction
The last Great War was a terrible struggle that reshaped the world. The God of Destruction unleashed powerful Dark forces bent on plunging the world into chaos. All hope seemed lost.
In the end, it was through the strength of Men and the sacrifice of Arwyn the Hero-King that the Allied Races were able to drive out the Darkness. However, the peace was short-lived as fighting broke out once more over the crown of the fallen Hero-King. Player’s goal is to lead Eshirite and his friends in defeating all the threats and bring an end to a horrifying war once and for all.
Gameplay
The game created and expressed a good world view for the players since the beginning of the game with its animation. The two main character, Eshirite and Lyilis serves a great role in the plot with their humorous and interesting dialogue, while the actions and effects of the characters are done nicely. Together with the full voice dubbing on the dialogues (Korean, Japanese and English available), the game truly gives a feels of watching an animation.
Game characters can be acquired by drawing with in-game gems or friendly points. Each hero has its own elemental type: fire, earth, water, light, or dark and you’ll need to take advantage of their class to deal more damage to enemies of the opposing class. Besides, several classes such as Warriors, Assassins and Mages are available too. From these, you can form your unique 4-man team!
Players can deploy heroes and equip them with weapons and items before every match starts. Upgrading heroes, weapons and items give more power to your heroes. After that, the player can choose a friendly hero to assist you(different heroes gives different bonus) thus joining the battle.
The game uses classic strategy RPG gameplay, the order of heroes attacking is distributed according to the progress bar. Players can choose their next move and attack from the options available, but every attack comes with a cooling time so you will need to plan your attacks. Elevation of different terrain is another important factor too, high ground gives you attack bonus while lower ground opposites. You can also observe the terrain with different perspective for a better move!
Except for the story campaign, there is also adventure mode which players could practice for leveling up. If you think it is too troublesome, the automatic mode would save up your time. Note that treasure chest gained can only be open manually.
After completing the second map in Adventure Mode, a multiplayer PvP Battle mode will be unlocked which you can compete with global players in real-time. After matching with an opponent, 5 heroes will need to be selected. You can observe your opponent’s choice and make the corresponding change before the battle starts. During the battle, players can choose to battle automatically or manually, but obviously, manual battle increases your chances of winning. Sometimes you can even defeat opponent that has a higher team level!
Pros
War of Crown is a very playable game on the first impression, as it has rich gameplay and an automatically mode which saves times for those who are busy. The game plot is also stronger than the other mobile games. They really did a great work on the game scene, no matter on the game story or in battles. Most importantly, the game comes with different choices of languages and voice dubbing, which makes the player immerse more into the game.
The settings of taking turns to select heroes in PvP mode are interesting as well. Here is a special tip, if you stay and do nothing at the main menu for a short period; the characters will begin to talk automatically (although it is pre-set dialogues)!
Cons
War of Crown is very playable, but it still could not get rid of drawing characters by gems which is very common in mobile games. The game characters all come with star levels, although the star levels did not guarantee victory, but higher star level still gives advantages significantly. Other than that, there is only one map for PvP battlefield, which turns out to be boring after a few times of playing. Hope the developer will introduce more maps for arena stage just like Clash Royale!
Conclusion
In general, War of Crown is worth for a try as it performs really good in many aspects. Strategic RPG fans are greatly recommended to try it out! You will find it fun no matter you are playing casually or a hardcore player. The game is now available globally on Android and iOS platforms, you can visit their Facebook page for more information.
