Cyberpunk Edgerunners is an anime series announced on Night City Wire, naturally based off the world of Cyberpunk 2077. It will be made in collaboration with Studio Trigger, who’s known for works like Little Witch Academia, PROMARE, KILL LA KILL and more. It will be airing on Netflix in 2022.
CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
The anime is supposed to be something that both Cyberpunk fans and those unfamiliar with the game will be able to enjoy, presumably a prequel of sorts to the game. We have a while to wait before it releases, so stay tuned.
It’s a project they’ve been working on since 2018, now finally revealed. “CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS is our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form,” says Adam Badowski, Cyberpunk 2077 Game Director and CD PROJEKT RED, Head of Studio. “We are so excited to finally reveal that we are working on an anime in the Cyberpunk world.”
