The Game Gear Micro has been announced by Sega, a miniature version of its handheld game console that was released back in 1990, in celebration of the company’s 60th anniversary. Currently only announced for Japan, it’ll be launching in black, blue, red and yellow colour variations 6 October, priced at 4980 yen.
Each color variation includes four games:
Black
- Out Run
- Puyo Puyo Tsu
- Royal Stone
- Sonic the Hedgehog
Blue
- Baku Baku Animal: Sekai Shiikugakari Senshuken
- Gunstar Heroes
- Sonic & Tails
- Sylvan Tale
Yellow
- Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux
- Shining Force
- Shining Force II
- Shining Force: Final Conflict
Red
- Columns
- The G.G. Shinobi
- Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible
- Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
The unit itself is 80 millimetres wide, 43 millimetres tall, and 20 millimetres in depth. A four-colour set has also been announced by Sega, which will cost you 29,980 yen. This set will include a Big Window Micro as a bonus. The Big Window Micro itself is a miniature version of the Big Window accessory that was released for the original Game Gear that enlarged the screen.
The original console may not have gotten exceptionally positive critical response, but it seems like a quaint idea to revisit the games of yore on its more or less “intended” format.
