Touhou Labyrinth, or as its full title goes, Touhou Labyrinth: Gensokyo to Tenkan no Taiju, has been announced for digital release this coming summer for Japan, for Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. The game is published by Phoenixx and developed by Cubetype and Nise-Eikoku Shinshidan. It is indeed the same game fans might know from its original 2009 release whose cover looked like this:
It’s the closest thing to Etrian Odyssey Touhou can get, featuring the boat loads of Touhou characters up to at least Undefined Fantastic Object, the 12th mainline game. It’s not mentioned if the console release will include the cast that’s grown to 17 mainline games by this point, as well as any other balance changes, updates and so forth.
The original version on PC had been fan-translated into English before. If the fan game sees big enough response, who knows if we’d get an officially localized version? Up to 12 characters can be your party, though only 4 will be in the frontline with the remainder 8 in reserve. Players will explore floors, like the stratum in Etrian Odyssey, and plenty of secrets and dangers lie in wait, including recruitable characters.
If the game hasn’t changed much, the fan translation may still work as a reference if you want to buy Touhou Labyrinth yourself.
