A fan of Maple Story took it upon his hands to rebuild the game using the Unreal Engine 4. For the uninitiated the engine was originally developed by Epic Games, and has been used to make graphically-intensive titles such as the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Days Gone and The Outer Worlds. As such, imagine what a powerful engine could do with something like Maple Story, or maybe not since the video below shows off just that:
While the the remake is somewhat playable, it is not to the extent one could hope for. The map can be explored, but there are no monsters to fight nor characters to interact with. Buildings such as shops can be entered and be savoured in their full 3D glory however. For better or worse, RYU Russell, the developer in question, also included the dreaded jumping puzzle where players need to make their way to the top by jumping precisely on floating platforms.
For the time being, the magician town or Ellinia and Temple of Time have been recreated using Unreal Engine 4, taking a total of a single month to complete. If you are curious how these levels play out for yourself, can you download them from these two links below:
