Final Fantasy 7 Remake second installment in progress

After much delay, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake released to much fanfare earlier in April 2020. The second installment for the game is already much anticipated due to how things wrapped up. Square Enix appears to be doing its best to ensure that the second part will not take as long to come out.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Producer Yoshinori Kitase said that work on the second part is already in progress. This confirms what he said previously on how Square Enix will move on to production of the next game as soon as the first one came out.

It is easy to assume that the second installment will be bigger and more open-ended as the story will no longer be confined to that of Midgar, so it is definitely interesting to see how Square Enix approaches this. Also, one will have to take into account how the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will affect development, which has resorted to developers having to work remotely. How much this will impact workflow in the long-run remains to be seen.

Within the first three days of launch alone, Square Enix managed to sell 3.5mn units of the game globally. That number certainly would have grown by now, and with possibly a PC launch down the line, we can safely assume that people really do want their Final Fantasy 7.
