Joining a string of events getting cancelled and/or postponed, both major and minor, will be E3 2020. Via Ars Technica, multiple sources familiar with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) have said the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will soon be cancelled. Digital Devolver posted an ominous tweet about cancelling E3 flights and hotels, to further fuel the fire. E3 2020 would be at the Los Angeles Convention Center for three days in early June, as with previous years, if the cancellation doesn’t come to pass.
Cancel your E3 flights and hotels, y’all.

An announcement about the event was supposedly meant to be released today, with whispers floating around that it would be confirmed within 24 hours. At time of writing, ESA representatives did not respond to Ars Technica about the state of E3. Would they be moving to a completely different venue, postponing the event, or be having it a virtual, live-streaming event? We’d be finding out soon enough, surely.
E3 2020 was originally stated to move forward, with a “continued plan for a safe and successful E3, while monitoring and evaluating potential impacts on events held in Los Angeles”. For now, it might be safe to assume that despite that, E3 2020 might be cancelled after all with mounting coronavirus concerns even with earlier assurances.
Sony had already long planned for a no-show at this year’s E3 despite the Playstation 5 expected holiday 2020. At this rate, no one else would be at the event either.
