Bandai Namco has just published a new teaser trailer for its upcoming Digimon Card Game, showcasing some game details and cards.
The video starts with the card types, of which there are four in total. The first are the Digimon cards themselves, and these serve as your battle cards. Next, the Digitama cards function as your evolution and growth cards, whereas Tamer cards are your support cards. Lastly, Option cards appear to be cards that activate various effects.
Digimon Card Game starts with both players having a total of five cards placed from their decks into the Security Area. Once you are able to reduce your opponent’s Security Area cards down to zero, you will be able to attack them directly for the win.
Moving on, we are given a brief explanation of the Evolution and Growth mechanics, whereby stacking cards on to of another will allow your Digimon to evolve. All evolved Digimon is capable of inheriting the traits of their predecessors. With multiple evolution routes, you are capable of raising different Digimon with different traits, allowing for unique strategies and builds.
We then get to the Memory Gauge System. In order to use cards, you will have to pay a specific Evolution Cost, and upon doing so, the Memory Gauge shared between players will move. The Memory moves towards your opponents in accordance to the numeric value written on the Cost. When your opponent’s Memory becomes 1 or more, it becomes their turn.
The trading card game is scheduled for a launch in April 2020, but do subscribe to Bandai’s official TCG channel on YouTube and follow their Twitter account for more information. For the time being, the game seems to be exclusive to Japan, so make your voices heard through the proper channels if you want them to localise this.
