Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road, the Xehanort focused spin-off game, will be combined into Kingdom Hearts Union Cross, stylized as Union χ. The game would then be boasting two titles! Dark Road will be a standalone game that will not require players to play Union χ. The full details provided by Square Enix is as follows:
◆KINGDOM HEARTS DARK ROAD
Exhilarating, high speed battles that depend on reflexes!
Uncover Xehanort’s past—* DARK ROAD will be a standalone game which can be played without playing Union χ. ◆KHUX & KHDR Link Campaign
The more complete your KHUX Medal Album is, the more points you can earn in KHDR to trade in for Cards to be used in battle!
* Note
・This campaign will only occur once for the release of KHDR.
・Only players who have played KHUX before the release of KHDR will be eligible. Any progress made to the Album following the release of KHDR will not reward any points in KHDR.
・The Medal Album can be viewed by opening MENU > Other > Album in “KHUX”.
The notice still doesn’t offer anything particularly substantial, nor a release date, but it is interesting that they’re choosing to merge it into an existing game instead of having it be a true standalone app. Whatever it is, players can start downloading Union χ/Cross ahead of Dark Road to know the next piece in the tangled web of Kingdom Hearts lore.
