While nowhere as gargantuan as Pokemon, the Digimon franchise has always had a strong following and has a history of bringing something new to the table each time. This however, has not always worked to its advantage. While the first two seasons told a centralised story, every subsequent release has been its own thing. As such, while some seasons were better received than others, some got lukewarm reception. For this round however, series runners are going back to the drawing board with the original Digimon Adventure.
By way of @AIR_News01 on Twitter via Ryokuta2089, there will be apparently be a new Digimon Adventure TV anime airing April 2020 in Japan, going by the working title Digimon Adventure: Ψ (or Digimon Adventure: Psi). The new series will revolve around fifth grader Tai Kamiya and his adventures with Agumon, alongside younger versions of the original DigiDestined. No details as to how long the series will run. Hiroyuki Sakurada will serve as producer, while the script will be handled by Atsuhiro Tomioka.
Since nothing was divulged on it, we can only hazard a guess as to the nature of this new series. From the looks of it, we could be looking at a soft reboot of sorts with a new take on the original show. How fans will take to this would depend on how much they enjoy and miss the old cast, which by the way, has had their stories explored further in Digimon Adventure tri and the upcoming Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna movie. It is no secret that the first team is well beloved and still has relevancy today, especially to those who grew up with the series. Do let us know in the comments below if you are excited to see the crew in Digimon Adventure: Psi, or if you have had enough with them milking the bunch for what they’re worth.
