Rather abruptly, Mobius Final Fantasy announced today that it ends service 31 March 2020. The mobile Final Fantasy RPG launched in Japan 4 June 2015, and went international 3 August 2016. Considering the general lifespan of mobile titles, almost five years is quite impressive.
The story of Palamecia ends quite suddenly with this news. Sales of premium currency have also halted, but they will still be available to use until the game shuts down for good. End of service is scheduled for 31 March 2020, 16:00 JST. Details of refunds will be announced later in the app and the official website.
At time of writing, the shut down appears to be solely for the Japanese server. However, the worldwide server could likely see the same fate at a later point. The Japanese notice states that updates will continue until end of service.
The story blurb on the official website goes:
“The Warrior of Light shall vanquish Chaos, leading the world to salvation.”Thus it was foretold in the prophecy… yet, that which came to pass was not what was foretold. The Chaos that drew mankind to despair was destroyed, but the hero who gave them hope vanished.Yes – by your hand.It was you who ended the tale of “The Warrior of Light”. And so, the brave figure of “The Warrior of Light” – of YOU – has been forgotten by the world.Their memory lost, the people whisper. There exists the one who transformed this once beautiful, hope-filled world.“The Warrior of Despair”, known to none.In an age now bereft of tales to be told, the world hungers… for a new legend.
That’ll be it then, without the full completion of the legend, as Mobius Final Fantasy ends, on a somber note.
