A New FF15 Mobile Game is in Development
Earlier today, it has been announced by the superstar company, Square Enix, that they’re developing a new mobile game with the Final Fantasy 15 IP (not to be confused with FF15: Pocket Edition). They will be working with a little-known Korean developer JSC (Joyful Space Creator), Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group and GAEA, two of China’s leading media companies.
The unnamed Final Fantasy 15 mobile game is being developed jointly by JSC and GAEA. JSC is a Korean game developer that has participated in the development of various Japanese games such as Final Fantasy series, Hitman and Just Cause. The Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group, a Chinese media group, will be in charge of publishing in the Chinese market.
Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group is a fast-growing representative media group in China. They provide a full range of entertainment services including movies, TV, games, shopping and tourism. Gaia develops and provides games, animations, and other content. They have worked on Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall, Captain Tsubasa, and Chinese mobile game 凹凸世界 (lit. Uneven World). Square Enix is a global game development and publishing company with world renown IP rights, including Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The companies are developing the unnamed title in Unreal Engine 4.

Unlike the original version of the console version, which is a single-player game, the Final Fantasy 15 mobile game features various multiplayer battles that will be played with a simpler touch operations. In contrast, the story is set in a world parallel to the console version’s world. It will focus on an alternate re-telling featuring the same road-trip but with different scenarios. There will even be new areas, the Great Pagoda being one of them, along with other continents that float in the skies.
Final Fantasy 15 is the latest version of SquareEnix’s popular series, Final Fantasy Series. FFXIV first released in November 2016 as the PS4 and XBOX ONE. It also released as a PC version later in March 2018.
Park Ji-young, CEO of JSC, said, “The Final Fantasy 15 Mobile MMORPG game has an immersive story, attractive characters, and ]will be a] Japanese RPG (aka JRPG). We’re doing our best to make it mobile [compatible].”
The first game trailer will release publicly in the first half of 2020. Unfortunately, there is currently no schedule for its launch.
In the meantime, gamers all over the world have been fans of the Final Fantasy series for more than 30 years. This is because it’s advanced imaging technology, unique worldview, and rich story continues to impress the world. To date, a total of 15 titles have been released. And the total sales volume of all series have totaled 140 million copies in 2019.
