Following the relative success of Octopath Traveler which came out on the Nintendo Switch, Square Enix announced Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent for the Android and iOS platforms in Japan which was supposed to launch sometime in 2019. The developer is unable to meet that deadline however, and the game is now pushed back to 2020.
This free-to-play single-player RPG is set in the world of Orsterra many years prior to the events of the original Octopath Traveler. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent boast high-quality 2D graphics and 3D CG effects that is reminiscent to that of the original. You will be able to set up a party of eight characters to partake in evolved command-based battles. For the main story itself, you will be able to experience it from the eyes of three different protagonists.
Pre-registration for the game is still up, so be sure to sign up alongside the 400,000 other people that have done so already. As you might come to expect, there will be some form of early bird reward for doing so, so be sure to get around it.
The delay is definitely unfortunate, but as Shigeru Miyamoto himself once said, A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad. Fans will no doubt be disappointed, but for those who have not played the original, you may want to do so before jumping into this one. Yes, this is a prequel, but we reckon that you will be able to appreciate certain elements a lot more by being aware of what to expect.
