Experience the ultimate online playground with a classic multiplayer experience and all new Special-Ops mode. Jump in to a collection of strategic co-op missions, suited to all skill levels the way only Call of Duty can deliver. Experience and progression through the narrative, multiplayer and Special-Ops are unified.
There’ll be three main game modes within Modern Warfare: campaign, multiplayer and co-op. Campaign is said to have unprecedented variety, so those in for the story should expect something good. Multiplayer will naturally call on players’ teamwork and strategy. Co-op meanwhile, is meant to be fun and accessible, while providing depth.
Multiplayer will have maps ranging from 2v2 to 6v6. Verano mentions there’ll also be bigger scale maps. Being accessible to newer players doesn’t mean veterans can’t enjoy the sheer depth of multiplayer! No matter what, teamwork and strategy will be key to victory. Exploring the map will be rewarding too.
Some maps will require night-vision. Utilize the infra-red laser to help you aim in these situations. Enemies will also have their night vision and will be able to see your laser. You’ll need to be disciplined and not always have it on, or you’ll give away your position.
Two major factions will be featured, the Allegiance and the Coalition. They’ll have their unique Operators with distinct looks, voice and personality. Operators will be cosmetics only. Speaking of customization, pay a visit to the gunsmith. With up to 50 attachments and many possible combinations along with gun variety, Modern Warfare reaches a new level of customization!
A new engine is in use to truly bring the setting to life. Photo real rendering gives an immersive and realistic look. Facial rigs, animation systems, have been updated as well. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to be the next evolution in the Call of Duty franchise, when it launches 25 October.
Modern Warfare is a property the studio has been very excited to work on, Verano says. While it may retain the name, he assures us the story and familiar characters have been completely rebuilt. They wanted to make something that could resonate with the modern day player. The bar of realism that can be seen in the game has really been pushed hard, reaching levels like never before.
Black Ops 4 hasn’t influenced the current Modern Warfare much, says Verano. With the game built from the ground up, every mechanic had to be questioned. They want the mechanics to make sense within Modern Warfare. Characters need to feel authentic, and not present an idealized view of war. Fans have often asked for more morally complex characters. The studio does want to make figures that feel like they can exist in the real world, without having a one-sided view of the world.
There won’t be any religious motivation within the game, as the studio has worked to separate that. However, the game does intend to challenge the player with its provocative storyline, with split second decisions to be made. There will be moral ambiguity, and you can’t always tell who’s the good guy or bad guy.
