If you never heard of it, maybe the news of the Final Fantasy Franchise and Tales Franchise has always been a larger media’s focus. Caravan Stories previously released at Android, iOS and PC which was a decent hit with about over 2 million downloads, with a cross platform function.
Let’s get to the point,
WHAT’S CARAVAN STORIES?
Caravan Stories is a Open World MMORPG that let’s the player to experience different races and how they interact within the world called, “Iyarr”. There are 5 (or 6, for other platforms) races that you can choose:
- Human
- Dwarf
- Ork (or we call it orc normally)
- Gessy (a beast humanoid)
- Elf
Each of the races highlights their own unique plots of how they perceive each other to gather up forces in order to save “Iyarr” from destruction. Other than that, each character has different roles that will be very crucial as the game progresses. If you don’t like sticking onto one character for a long time, fear not, this game treats the main character as a storytelling element, you can freely change you main characters along the way.
If you’re an avid fan of Gacha Games, then you’re in luck, this game has a wide pool of characters that you can get with and without Gacha. As of now, Heroes and Equipments can be gacha-ed from the “Loot Box” function. This is quite a typical thing for Free-to-Play games.
Other than Heroes and Equipments, there are also monsters throughout the game. This game holds a somewhat similar concept of Pokemon, as the monsters within the Open world can be captured and added to your team compositions. Each of them also highlights their own skills that can be utilized whenever it is needed.
With all those characters in mind, the game also has an upgrading system which allows the characters to be leveled up, evolve and limit broken. Weapons themselves have their own upgrade map that improve their stats. Monsters evolving will not just have a change of appearance, there will also be a stats upgrade and skills to be unlocked. Heroes on the other hand will also have a change of their looks but only in terms of their outfits. With this said, outfits itself can be gacha, and each hero has their own outfit that provides the equipped character additional stats.
So far, there’s no CARAVAN WITH THE NAME CARAVAN STORIES?
Wow there, slow down a bit, we still have plenty to go. CARAVAN, well, of course there are caravans in a game literally named after it. After your first mission, you will get a caravan that will assist you in terms of materials for upgrade and other aspects within the games. There is a lot of stuff that you can put within your caravan. This ranges from cosmetics to functional items that can be acquired from the game (presumably also from gacha).
After a long list of things that you can do you must be asking, “Gameplay?”. Of course, the gameplay consists of the most classical open world exploration that you as the player can explore. Other than that, there are modes that comes with the game.
- Dungeons
- Instanced dungeon where you traverse within it to try to level up and get some loots
- Raid
- 3 players group up and fight within an area where the raid happens
- Raid bosses spawns within the open world itself
- Colosseum
- PvP (Player Vs Player)
- This mode is where you have to protect your caravan from your opponent
- You can bring 10 units per Duel
- This work like a Tower Defense game where you can spawn your units to attack the opponent
With the modes distributed, now let’s talk about the combat. The combat is a pretty standard automated mode like how games like “Epic Seven” or “King’s Raid” is; which means the combat and quest can be carried out automatically and you get to use the skills that the unit has.
Like many MMORPGs, there is a guild system where you can gather players to play with you constantly and go raiding with a fix team! The Guild system for Caravan Stories encourages you to gather friends to play with you and improve together with them and have some fun!
With all those hyped stuff, there is a catch with this game, which is called, “Action Point” or as we known as Stamina system. Each character within the game has their respective bar. Each combat that you encounter will cost 1 point, but you can recover some of the points by using an item within the game or wait 2 minutes per point. You can purchase Action Points related items via real money in the store. This design perspective strongly encourages us to collect more characters and empower them. Don’t worry, you can still grind the game regardless but the design discourages you by deducting your EXP and your Loots that you can normally gain.
“Caravan Stories gives players countless ways to write a story all their own,”
said Masahiko Takeuchi, the PS4 director of Aiming Inc. With so many characters for you to explore, and adventures to go on, make sure to have a lot of fun with this Free-to-Play Game out right now for PS4. This game supports English Text and Japanese Audio.
