The Penang Esports Festival 2019 has seen quite a few big names on its stage, one of them being Goichi “GO1” Kishida, of Cyclops Athlete Gaming. We got the chance to ask the man a few questions at the Setia SPICE Arena!
Penang Island is known for its food, so we had to know if he’s tried the culinary delights of the island. He hasn’t really explored much, from what he tells us. He does sing the praises of a Chinese restaurant near his hotel. Maybe someone should take him out further to see what the rest of the island has to offer.
You might have heard of GO1 after he won a little known tournament known as EVO just last month. He beat out SonicFox in DragonBall FighterZ 3:2 for the championship, so how does he feel about that? GO1 says the feeling has died down some, but he’s still really glad he managed to win when thinking back on the game.
GO1 has been playing DragonBall FighterZ since launch, namely around 1 1/2 years since. Vegeta is his favourite, along with Blue Vegeta and Giran. He thinks it’ll be harder to use a lower tier character like Jiren, but is nevertheless one of his favourite characters.
GO1 does believe SonicFox to be his biggest rival. When asked if he would consider playing Mortal Kombat to go up against SonicFox there, he says he has given it a try. However, with the tutorials being entirely in English, he didn’t know what he could do. GO1 has expressed a desire to fight SonicFox regardless if given the opportunity.
For aspiring fighting game pros, GO1 advises would-be players to focus on studies first. If you’re able to find that balance between studies and games, and you know you have a talent, then go ahead and try the competitive life.
GO1 is at the Penang Esports Festival 2019 on invitation, and he thanks the Malaysian fans for asking him to come. He asks for your continued support of you in the fighting game community. We wish him the best of luck in future tournaments!
