When Dragon Quest Walk was first announced earlier this month, many dubbed it “Dragon Quest Go”. And it’s not a surprise that the new details revealed only reinforces this belief.
Developed by Niantic, Dragon Quest Walk is a mobile game that uses the world around you to generate a Dragon Quest adventure you can enjoy.
Like Pokemon Go, you experience this game by moving around in the real world. As you move, you get to interact with a variety of in-game markers that either let you advance a quest, battle monsters or grab items.
The game also comes with Main Quests, which means it’ll be story-driven to a certain extent. When you tap on “Quest” on your screen, certain areas on the map will be marked. By going to these locations physically, you get to activate or advance the main quest. Clearing the main quests is also how you can recruit new characters to your party. So far, three other characters have been revealed.
As you fight monsters, you will be able to level up and get equipment drops. These will obviously be used to strengthen your party members. One thing that’s neat is that, according to the second screenshot below, the game allows your characters to change classes (button below the list of stats). We’re not sure how this works yet though.
Dragon Quest Walk will launch sometime in 2019 for Android and iOS. Note that there is currently no news if the game will be playable outside of Japan or in another language yet. But we will post an update on that as soon as there’s confirmation. For now, you can visit the game’s website and Twitter account for more info.
