A while ago, Sony introduced the PS4 Remote Play which allows you to stream your PS4 games. It was available for just a few devices before Sony brought it to more including the Xperia smartphones. Since then, there has not been any news of its availability for iOS devices but now there is. Yes, you can now officially stream your PS4 games to your iOS device!
Yesterday, Sony surprised everyone with a PS4 firmware update 6.50 which added support for Remote Play on iOS devices. The PS4 Remote Play app is now available on the App Store and it is free! Of course, you will need to set it up first and that includes setting up your PS4 as well.
First things first, connect your PS4 to the Internet. Then you need to sign in to your PSN account in the app. If you have never used Remote Play on a PS Vita or any other supported devices earlier, you might need to enable it in the settings on your PS4.
Unfortunately, the app does not support Sony’s own DUALSHOCK 4 controller. Therefore, you will have to figure out your own ways. An example would be using other controllers such as a MFi controller. A recommendation would be the Gamevice iPhone controller. If you do not want any problem to occur while streaming, you can always set the video streaming quality and also choose a framerate option.
In its current state, the PS4 Remote Play app for iOS is definitely still at its beginner stage. The fact that it does not support the DUALSHOCK 4 controller is annoying enough. Thus, it is better to go for slower-paced games such as turn-based RPGs and visual novels as of now.
Furthermore, the app supports voice chat and keyboard input. You will need an iOS version of 12.1 and above to support the app. Recommended devices would be iPhone 7, 6th-generation iPad, 2nd-generation iPad Pro and above. We do hope that Sony makes some improvements to the app so it will be able to support the DUALSHOCK 4 controller in the future.
